Personalizing Anticoagulant Treatment: Risk Stratification and Your Patient
Target Audience:
This activity has been developed for cardiologists and health care providers who manage patients with, or are at risk for, AF or thrombotic events.
Program Overview
This enhanced Webcast conference capture contains footage from a live satellite symposium conducted on November 18, 2013, in Dallas, Texas, which features up-to-the-minute clinical data from the 2013 AHA Scientific Sessions, along with postsymposium faculty commentary on emerging therapies. The educational activity addresses key issues and controversies associated with AF and thrombotic events, making it relevant for clinicians from multiple disciplines in terms of risk reduction and improved patient outcomes.
The program's discussion-based format offers different perspectives from expert faculty on how to best tailor anticoagulant therapy to the individual patient. Best practices for treatment initiation and long-term management with currently approved anticoagulants, as well as implications for investigative agents are discussed.
Estimated time to complete: 90 minutes.

Objectives:
- Identify patients with nonvalvular atrial fibrillation (AF) and venous thromboembolism (VTE) who would benefit from anticoagulant treatment in order to decrease the occurrence of adverse thrombotic events
- Recommend anticoagulant therapy by matching an individual patient's profile with the appropriate agents for maximum risk reduction and safety
- Determine the risk-to-benefit ratio of anticoagulant therapy in aging patients to improve their overall health and quality of life
